Repair procedures
Removal
1.

Remove wheel nuts, wheel and tire (A) from hub.

Tightening torque:

107.9 - 127.5 N·m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf·m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb·ft)

  

Be careful not to damage the wheel bolts when removing the wheel and tire (A).
2.

Remove the rear lower arm cover (A).
3.

Loosen the rear shock absorber upper bolts and the remove the rear shock absorber.

Tightening torque :

63.7 - 78.4 N·m (6.5 - 8.0 kgf·m, 47.0 - 57.9 lb·ft)

  

Up the transmission jack under the lower arm in order to remove the rear shock absorber in no-load condition.
4.

Loosen the bolt (A) and then separate the rear assist arm from the rear axle.

Tightening torque :

117.7 - 132.4 N·m (12.0 - 13.5 kgf·m, 86.8 - 97.6 lb·ft)

5.

Loosen the bolt & nut and then remove the rear assist arm from the rear cross member.

Tightening torque :

137.3 - 156.9 N·m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf·m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb·ft)

6.

Loosen the rear lower arm bolt & nut and then separate the lower arm from the rear axle.

Tightening torque :

156.9 - 176.5 N·m (16.0 - 18.0 kgf·m, 115.7 - 130.2 lb·ft)

  

Up the transmission jack under the lower arm in order to remove the rear lower arm in no-load condition.
7.

Loosen the bolt & nut and then remove the rear lower arm.

Tightening torque :

137.3 - 156.9 N·m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf·m, 101.3 - 115.7 lb·ft)

8.

Loosen the trailing arm bolt & nut and then remove the trailing arm.

Tightening torque :

117.7 - 132.4 N·m (12.0 - 13.5 kgf·m, 86.8 - 97.6 lb·ft)

9.

Loosen the rear upper arm rear bolt & nut (A) and then separate the rear upper arm rear.

Tightening torque :

117.7 - 132.4 N·m (12.0 - 13.5 kgf·m, 86.8 - 97.6 lb·ft)

10.

Loosen the rear upper arm rear bolt and then remove the rear upper arm rear.

Tightening torque :

117.7 - 132.4 N·m (12.0 - 13.5 kgf·m, 86.8 - 97.6 lb·ft)

11.

Loosen the bolt & nut and then remove the rear upper arm front from the rear axle.

Tightening torque :

117.7 - 132.4 N·m (12.0 - 13.5 kgf·m, 86.8 - 97.6 lb·ft)

12.

Remove the propeller shaft.

(Refer to Driveshaft and axle - "Propeller shaft")

13.

Remove the rear muffler.

D 2.2 R VGT (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Muffler")

G 2.0 T-GDI THETA II (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Muffler")

G 3.3 T-GDI LAMBDA II (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Muffler")

14.

Remove the rear driveshaft.

(Refer to Driveshaft and axle - "Rear drive shaft")

15.

Remove the rear axle.

(Refer to Driveshaft and axle - "Rear hub / Carrier")

16.

Remove the rear differential.

(Refer to Driveshaft and axle - "Rear Differential Carrier")

17.

Loosen the rear cross member nuts & bolts and then remove the rear cross member.

Tightening torque :

(A,C) : 176.5 - 196.1 N·m (18.0 - 20.0 kgf·m, 130.2 - 144.7 lb·ft)

(B) : 44.1 - 58.8 N·m (4.5 - 6.0 kgf·m, 32.5 - 43.4 lb·ft)

  

Must use a engine jack for safety.
18.

Loosen the stabilizer bar nuts & bolts and then remove the stabilizer bar.

Tightening torque :

49.0 - 63.7 N·m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf·m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb·ft)

19.

Loosen the rear upper arm front nut & bolt and then remove the rear upper arm front from the rear cross member.

Tightening torque :

117.7 - 132.4 N·m (12.0 - 13.5 kgf·m, 86.8 - 97.6 lb·ft)

20.

Remove the damper from the rear cross member.

Tightening torque :

49.0 - 63.7 N·m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf·m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb·ft)

21.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

  

Install at the empty vehicle height when it is assembled.
22.

Check the alignment.

Repair procedures Inspection    • Wrap tin foil around the end of the voltmeter test lead to prevent damaging the heater line. Apply pressure on the tin foil with hand and move the tin foil along the grid line to check for open circuits.

Never move the shift lever from P (Park) or N (Neutral) to any other position with the accelerator pedal depressed. Never move the shift lever into P (Park) when the vehicle is in motion. Be sure the vehicle is completely stopped before you attempt to shift into R (Reverse) or D (Drive). Do not move the shift lever to N (Neutral) when driving.
